The 2025 AIA Architecture Firm Award honoree is looking for an Editor/Writer to lead our publishing and editorial efforts. This role serves as an editor-in-chief across our ecosystem, with the creative freedom and strategic responsibility to shape how we communicate ideas that matter. Responsibilities include editing our quarterly magazine, Catalyst ; writing regular features and thought leadership articles; managing a team of freelance writers; and developing editorial strategies in alignment with the fast-growing firm’s business goals, brand campaigns and marketing priorities.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned editor and writer, with the clarity of a journalist and the collaborative instincts of a creative director. You’ll steward our brand voice, guide the narrative throughlines of our communications, build a trusted network of writers and collaborators, and ensure our firm’s stories resonate inside and outside the AEC industry.
Key Responsibilities: - Editorial Strategy & Voice Development
- Lead and evolve the firm’s editorial voice and tone, ensuring consistency across platforms and audiences.
- Partner with leadership and subject matter experts to bring their ideas to life with clarity, insight, and polish.
- Own and manage the editorial calendar in alignment with business goals, brand campaigns, and marketing priorities.
- Assign, guide, and edit work from a team of in-house and freelance writers.
- Collaborate closely with graphic design, marketing, media relations, and video to develop integrated storytelling packages.
- Oversee the editorial direction of our award-winning quarterly publication.
- Thought Leadership & Strategic Narratives
- Translate complex ideas from design, sustainability, innovation, and culture into accessible, compelling content.
- Identify and pursue storylines that elevate the firm’s national reputation.
- Contribute to positioning work for pursuits, proposals, and firmwide campaigns.
- Manage timelines, assignments, and workflows to keep projects on track.
- Maintain an active roster of trusted freelance writers, editors, and contributors.
- Coordinate with marketing leadership to measure impact and optimize reach.
Qualifications: - 10+ years of experience in editorial, journalism, content strategy, or communications—preferably in design, architecture, creative services, or a mission-driven organization.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a portfolio that demonstrates strategic storytelling, voice consistency, and message clarity.
- Experience managing editorial teams, freelancers, and content calendars.
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines and with senior leadership.
- Familiarity with the rhythms and culture of the architecture, engineering, or design industries is a plus.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with shifting priorities.
Bonus Skills: - Background in journalism, long-form writing, or magazine publishing.
- Understanding of SEO, UX writing, and content performance metrics.
- Experience supporting brand campaigns or high-stakes pursuits

The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $145,000 and is eligible for an annual bonus. If you are hired at LPA, your base salary is based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience and/or project complexity. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer.
