Summary:

The Buyer is responsible for managing the procurement process for regionally managed products, ensuring alignment with company policies and objectives. Key responsibilities include planning, scheduling, negotiating, sourcing, and procuring products to maintain a steady and efficient supply chain. This role focuses on achieving cost-effective purchasing solutions, optimizing supplier relationships, and ensuring the timely availability of quality products to meet business needs. The Buyer will work closely with internal stakeholders and suppliers to drive operational efficiency and support business growth through strategic sourcing and supply chain management practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Select products based on market trends, performance, supplier reliability, and consumer demand.
  • Manage the product life cycle, with an understanding of consumer preferences and competitive dynamics.
  • Provide product and pricing recommendations to regional store teams, developing strategies to balance volume and margin effectively.
  • Continuously assess and select vendors based on their ability to deliver consistent supply, high quality, competitive pricing, and market expertise.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to negotiate pricing, order quantities, volume discounts, and terms based on demand, promotions, and market conditions.
  • Build strong vendor relationships by resolving issues related to invoicing, product quality, and delivery, ensuring reliable supply and in-stock performance.
  • Establish ordering policies, lead times, and request quotes to optimize supplier selection and costs.
  • Analyze supplier performance, negotiating lead-time reductions and stocking programs to minimize inventory burdens.
  • Plan and process daily requisitions and purchase orders to meet store demand, expediting orders as needed.
  • Use data analysis to interpret financial data, managing category performance and identifying key business indicators.
  • Conduct category reviews and implement performance improvement plans to drive procurement and sales effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.
  • 4 to 7 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain management, or retail merchandising is required; entry-level roles may be available for candidates with relevant education or internships.
  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Asian grocery products, cultural preferences, and market trends is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong negotiation skills for securing optimal contracts and pricing with suppliers.
  • Proficient in analyzing sales data and market trends to inform purchasing decisions and optimize inventory.
  • Experienced in building and maintaining vendor relationships to ensure product quality and timely delivery.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring timely execution of purchasing and merchandising strategies.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
