We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Herd Manager to oversee the daily operations of our 200 cow dairy farm. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of herd health, breeding, and nutrition. This role requires effective communication and organizational skills to ensure the well-being of the herd while optimizing productivity. Additional duties include management of employee work scheduling, hands on employee training of milking, cleaning and general maintenance and other duties as assigned by leadership.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily herd operations, including feeding, breeding, and health monitoring.
• Develop and implement herd management plans that align with best practices in animal husbandry.
• Supervise and train staff in herd management techniques, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
• Maintain accurate records related to herd health, breeding schedules, inventory control.
• Conduct regular assessments of herd health and implement necessary interventions or treatments.
• Collaborate with veterinarians and nutritionists to enhance herd performance.
• Manage inventory for feed, supplies, and equipment necessary for herd maintenance.
• Foster a positive work environment through effective team management.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in livestock management or a related field is essential.
• Strong leadership skills with experience in supervising teams effectively.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with diverse groups, including multilingual or bilingual capabilities preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
