Our challenge

We are looking for a Design Manager with a strong focus on managing the day-to-day operations of ongoing products and project execution. This role is pivotal in ensuring that design initiatives are executed efficiently and effectively, maintaining the highest quality of user experience and user interface across RBC GAM digital products.

Additional Information*

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors. In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Toronto, ON is CAD $130k – CAD $140k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

Design Management:

  • Oversee the design aspects of product development from concept to launch, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
  • Coordinating closely with cross-functional teams to meet project milestones.
  • Address and resolve any design-related issues that arise during the project lifecycle.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to junior and offshore designers.

Design Execution:

  • Lead the design process for ongoing products, including creating wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Ensure design consistency and coherence across various products and platforms.
  • Gather and integrate user feedback and research findings into the design process to enhance product quality.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Work directly with designers, product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to align on design goals and deliverables.
  • Communicate design concepts and decisions effectively to ensure clarity and alignment across teams.
  • Facilitate design reviews and discussions to gather constructive feedback and drive continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in product design, demonstrating a deep understanding of design principles, research methods and industry best practices, along with minimum 2 years as people manager in a large (financial) organization within an agile environment.
  • Be a strong communicator and advocate for the customer, the brand, and its impact.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead design initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Able to run design thinking facilitation sessions with cross-functional teams.
  • Deadline-driven and results-oriented; able to meet consistently high-quality standards while handling a variety of tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excel in distilling complex design and experience challenges and providing solutions.
  • Proficient in design, prototyping, and project management tools: Figma, MURAL, Adobe Creative Suite, Confluence, JIRA etc.

Preferred, but not required:

  • Mastery of visual design skills (i.e. grids, balance, color theory), excellent attention to detail, deep understanding of the principles of atomic design including symbols, layer styles and variables, experience working with and growing a design library.
