Location: York County, Maine
Employment Type: Full-Time (40 hours/week, some nights and weekends required)
Compensation: $40,000–$60,000 per year (based on experience and licensing)
Exempt: Salaried position (not eligible for overtime, etc.)
Start Date: Immediate (flexible for the right candidate)

Southern Maine FC (SMFC) is a growing, community-focused soccer club dedicated to developing youth players across Southern Maine. Our mission is to provide high-quality training, build character through sport, and foster a lifelong love of the game. SMFC proudly serves players from the foundational ages through competitive travel teams and elite development programs.
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Director of Coaching (DOC)to lead our coaching staff, oversee player development pathways, and drive the continued growth of our club.
Position Summary
The Director of Coaching will be responsible for managing all aspects of Southern Maine FC’s soccer programming — from curriculum design and coach education to player development and community outreach. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, as well as a deep understanding of youth soccer structure and culture in the United States.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Oversee all club coaches (youth, academy, and travel programs).
Develop and implement a consistent, age-appropriate training curriculum across all age groups.
Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate coaching staff.
Lead seasonal coach education sessions, clinics, and workshops.
Foster a positive, player-centered culture aligned with SMFC’s values.
Directly Coach two U14+ Southern Maine FC Premier Teams
Player Development
Design and oversee long-term player development plans for all levels.
Conduct periodic player evaluations and assist with team placements.
Support individual player growth through mentorship and supplemental programming (clinics, camps, ID sessions).
Operations & Administration
Collaborate with club leadership on scheduling, budgets, and logistics.
Assist with registration, team formation, and event planning.
Directly Coach two, u14+ SMFC Premier Teams
Maintain compliance with club, league, and US Youth Soccer policies.
Represent SMFC at league meetings and coaching events.
Develop, organize and supervise camps & clinics.
Community & Communication
Act as a visible and approachable leader for players, families, and coaches.
Communicate regularly with parents, coaches, and board members regarding programming and player progress.
Support outreach initiatives, including camps, clinics, and community partnerships.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
USSF C License (or higher)
Minimum 3 years of youth coaching or club leadership experience
Proven success in player and coach development
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed
Preferred Qualifications
USSF B or A License (or equivalent international certification)
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Sports Management, Education, etc.)
Experience with curriculum design and club management software
Knowledge of local and regional soccer environments in New England
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $40,000 – $60,000 , commensurate with experience and licensing
