Roche Diagnostics acquired Stratos Genomics in 2020 for its unique chemistry, Sequencing by Expansion (SBX™), that supports high signal-to-noise nanopore sequencing. The Protein Engineering group at Roche Diagnostics Seattle is focused on innovative approaches to improve the performance of proteins in SBX, especially the Xpandomer synthase, a highly evolved DNA polymerase that makes SBX possible. The role involves researching, designing, and executing innovative and well-controlled experiments with high attention to detail, identifying and troubleshooting problems creatively, contributing to project goals, performing data analysis and protocol development, maintaining accurate laboratory records, presenting findings clearly, maintaining lab cleanliness and organization, and proposing improved processes. Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years practical experience in computational protein design using state-of-the-art design tools, a BA/BS degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Structural Biology or related field with 5 years relevant experience, with preferred qualifications including an MS or PhD degree. Strong bench skills, experience designing and screening protein variant libraries, and technical background in next-generation DNA sequencing are ideal. A cover letter addressing interest in working with Roche and SBX technology is required.
