* 13 weeks
* Education: Bachelor of Science in medical technology, biology, and chemistry or HTL certification from recognized agency.
* License requirement: Histotechnician AAS NY State license required.
* Qualified candidate will assume responsibility for the processing, embedding, cutting and staining of surgical and autopsy tissue, and for the preparation and staining of cytopathology specimens according to established policies and procedures for Pathologist's examination and interpretation.
* Qualified candidate will be responsible for the correct management of the patient's body tissue which includes preparing microscopic sections for diagnosis by the Pathologist as well as documentation and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
* Histologist will perform specialized, selective techniques required for diagnostic purposes and participate in the Quality Assurance program.

*Overview*
The Histotechnologist plays a crucial role in the preparation and examination of tissue samples for diagnostic purposes. This position involves working in both research and clinical laboratory settings, where precision and attention to detail are paramount. Histotechnologists are responsible for the processing of specimens, ensuring that high-quality slides are prepared for pathologists to analyze. This role requires a strong foundation in laboratory techniques and a thorough understanding of anatomy.
*Duties*
* Prepare and process tissue specimens for microscopic examination.
* Perform various laboratory procedures including embedding, sectioning, and staining of tissues.
* Utilize aseptic techniques to maintain specimen integrity and prevent contamination.
* Conduct quality control checks on laboratory equipment and reagents.
* Collaborate with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnoses.
* Maintain accurate records of specimen collection, processing, and results.
* Assist in the training of new staff or interns on laboratory procedures and techniques.
* Adhere to safety protocols and regulations within the laboratory environment.
*Skills*
* Proficiency in laboratory techniques related to histology, including specimen collection processing.
* Experience working in both research and clinical laboratories is preferred.
* Strong knowledge of anatomy to accurately interpret tissue samples.
* Ability to perform phlebotomy as needed for patient care.
* Familiarity with aseptic techniques to ensure specimen safety.
* Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively.
* Strong communication skills for collaboration with team members and healthcare providers.
* Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality in all laboratory processes.
